The Oceanis 42 in the Gulf

The Oceanis 42 is the successor to the Oceanis 40.1 and opens a new generation of Beneteau’s 40-foot cruisers. Marc Lombard drew the hull and Nauta Design the deck and interior, with five layout options — from two cabins and one bathroom to four cabins for charter — and a choice of L-shaped or linear galley, something Beneteau says no other 40-footer offers.

The aft platform works open, as an extension of the cockpit for swimming, or closed, as extra seating near the helm, and the helm stations borrow the integrated seats and consoles of the Oceanis 47 and 52. Below, the galley carries 215 litres of refrigeration — welcome in the Gulf heat — the saloon faces a full-size desk, and the owner’s cabin has a 160 cm bed. A taller rig than on the 40.1 adds power in light breezes, with a draft of 1.68 to 2.25 metres.
